Murder by gold smugglers: DNA test proves deceased is Irshad, not Deepak | Kozhikode

Police confirmed that the body found in Kadaloor River on July 17 was that of Irshad, who had been abducted by the gold smugglers.

Kozhikode Rural SPR Karuppasamy said the DNA test confirmed the identity of the dead as a native Irshad of Panthirikkara. Earlier, assuming it was Deepak’s body from Vadakkekandi in Meppayoor, it was cremated.

Members of the smuggling gang had told police that on July 16, Irshad jumped into the waters from the Purakkatri bridge.

An investigation was carried out following the same and the body was found in the Kadaloor River.

Shaheel and Jinaf, from Wayanad, who were believed to be the main members of the gang, were arrested following the incident and others are under observation, police said. They too would soon be arrested. The two vehicles they were using were also seized.

To date, three people have been arrested in this case.
It was on May 13 that Irshad reached Kerala from the Gulf. His parents say Irshad, who left for Wayanad on July 17, later disappeared.

Meanwhile, the smuggling gang had called his parents, claiming that they had kidnapped Irshad and would not release him unless he returned the gold he was supposed to deliver.

They had also sent a photo of Irshad, as evidence, following which the relatives informed the police.
