indore: Indore obtains a DNA testing laboratory | Indore News

Indore: Cops have opened a DNA testing facility at a forensic laboratory in the Rau area of Indore.
The lab, set up around 20 years ago, as part of the police modernization programme, has so far only carried out biological tests to help in the investigation of crimes reported in the Indore Range .
The new facility was inaugurated on Monday by the Additional Director General of Police (Technical Services), Bhopal GP Singh. Indore Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra and Indore IG (Country Area) Rakesh Gupta were also present.
Department officials said that this upgrade consists of having a high-tech laboratory to carry out DNA profiling in Indore itself, instead of sending the samples to the forensic laboratory in Bhopal.
They said this often led to delays in obtaining reports and hampered the investigation of several crimes.
“The delay in getting the reports on time has often hampered the progress of the investigation. We had to wait days to get the reports from Bhopal due to the already increased number of samples there,” Arvind Nayak, co-director of the Forensic Laboratory in Indore, told TOI.
DNA profiling plays an important role in the forensic investigation of crimes, and with this new upgrade of having a high-tech facility for DNA testing, we can expedite the investigation of crimes reported in eight districts of the Indore range including Indore, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Khargone, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Dhar and Barwani, he added. tnn
